Description

Product Overview On 9mm Ammo:

The 9mm ammo Parabellum (also known as 9mm Parabellum or 9mm Luger) is a rimless, tapered firearms cartridge.Originally designed by Austrian firearm designer Georg Luger in 1901 it is widely considered the most popular handgun and submachine gun cartridge due to its low cost and extensive availability. It is a standard cartridge for NATO forces as well as in many non-NATO countries.

Since the cartridge was designed for the Luger semi-automatic pistol, it has been given the designation of 9mm Luger by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) and the Commission Internationale Permanente pour l’Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives (CIP)

Origin of 9mm luger ammo

In the year 1902, Luger presented the new round to the British Small Arms Committee. In the year 1903, Luger sent three prototype copies of the round to the United States Army for testing at Springfield Arsenal. In 1904, the cartridge was adopted by the Imperial German Navy, and two years later, in 1908, it was also adopted by the German Army.

In Germany during World War II, in an effort to preserve lead, the lead core was replaced with an iron core that was then encased in lead. This bullet, which could be recognized by its black jacket, was given the designation 08 mE (mit Eisenkern, which translates to “with an iron core”). By 1944, the usual copper-colored jacket of the 08 mE bullet had replaced the bullet’s formerly black jacket.

Production of these bullets continued after this change. Another variant used during the war was known as the 08 sE bullet and was distinguished by its dark gray jacket. It was manufactured by compressing iron powder at a high temperature into a solid material known as Sintereisen, which literally translates to “sintered iron.”

The term “Parabellum” originates from the Latin phrase “Si vis pacem, para bellum,” which is the company motto of Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) (“If you want peace, prepare for war”)..

Notice From Hornady: Temporary suspension of nickel plated cartridge cases for Critical Defense® Handgun Ammunition

Unfortunately, everyone is faced with production bottlenecks and supply chains are stressed. In particular, the freight system is delayed longer than normal. Our current turnaround time on nickel plating cartridge cases is 4+ weeks. This delay has created a significant bottleneck in the production of ammunition.

Due to these issues, we will suspend nickel plating on all Critical Defense handgun ammunition to help reduce production time.

Please note, this is a temporary suspension. We will review in six months and plan to resume nickel plating when things return to normal.
